Our First Lady

Sis. Poiette McGill Bromell

Poiette McGill Bromell was born in Sumter, South Carolina on November 22, 1968. The daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Henry and Jacqueline Jackson McGill of Marion, she is married to Rev. Dr. Cecil L. Bromell, D. Min., a native of Loris, SC and pastor of the historic Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church in Darlington, SC. She and Dr. Bromell have three wonderful children, Shakira, Victory, and CeJay, a darling granddaughter, Mercy and two little handsome grandsons, Timothy and Michael.

Mrs. Bromell is a 1987 Honor graduate of Marion High School and a 1988 graduate of the American Academy McAllister Institute of Funeral Service in New York City. She received an Associate Degree of Mortuary Science, graduated Cum Laude, served as Vice-President and was honored salutatorian of her class. Poiette has been a funeral director and embalmer for South Carolina since 1990 and for North Carolina since 1998. She has been employed with Jackson-McGill Funeral Services in Marion for more than 20 years as embalmer and funeral director. She is now the owner of Grace Embalming Services, LLC, a company whose motto embodies all that she believes a funeral professional should be: "Caring Hands for Hurting Hearts."

She is a member of the National Funeral Director and Morticians Association, the South Carolina Morticians Association and the Sixth Congressional District Morticians Association.

In 1992, Mrs. Bromell was elected to serve the Marion City Council, serving five years in District Five. She was later re-elected to the Marion City Council on April 12, 2005 and faithfully served the needs of her community until 2010 when she resigned to move to Darlington. She is a graduate of the South Carolina Municipal Association's Strom Thurmond Institute of Government where she completed a four year program in municipal governance and city planning. She also served as a field representative for Senator Ernest Fritz Hollings (D) 1889-1999 and as a project coordinator for the SC Democratic Party during that same year. She has served on various boards and committees throughout the state.

Mrs. Bromell is a 2007 graduate of Francis Marion University, with a B.A. in Secondary English Education. Despite a very hectic schedule, she consistently remained on the President's and Dean;s List throughout her college experience, graduating Cum Laude. She worked at Mullins High School as an English and Latin Teacher and Darlington High School teaching 11th and 12th grade English. She encouraged her students to not only think outside the box, but beyond the box.

Poiette conducts mission workshops and has written course outlines on the issues of Youth Church Involvement, Intercessory Prayer, the Role of Women in Mission Work, Holistic Health, Spiritual Wellness and Christian Marriage. She is often called upon to speak for youth, young women, and mission events and gladly shares her testimony of God's grace over her life. Mrs. Bromell has written and publsihed two books entitled, Saved & Sexual: A Survival Guide for Pastor's Wives and What God Has Joined Together: A Marriage Maintenance Guide for Christian Couples. Both books are designed to strengthen marriages and families.

In her leisure time, she enjoys horseback riding, golfing, reading, and writing.

Mrs. Bromell is a member and first lady of the Historic Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, Darlington, SC.
